Peoria Heights Illinois

My husband has lived in Peoria Heights his entire life. We both moved in to our first starter home in 2003.  Since then we have moved up on the bluff and have remained here . Four to five of our friends all moved elsewhere.  My sister and mother both lived in the Peoria Heights region also after we left Elmwood. But now my sister is in Morton with her family of four and my mother is in Galesburg.  All of my in- laws live here in Peoria Heights.

We will not leave, it is a beautiful town and worth every penny.

I am hoping to pull in some other families to experience this village the same as we have been.

We love our colonial home and neighbors very much. It is home for sure, with a private backyard, three parks less than fifty feet, and every business we would ever need in walking distance.

I have pushed my education with OSF for a plan B  if I ever need insurance for my family.

I will be an active local real estate agent this coming May 2016.

We are blessed with my husbands insurance through Peoria and I am pursuing real estate , a dream job with meeting many new faces, serving to them, and being a apart of their decisions on finding their home whether it is in Peoria Heights or Central Illinois.

I love the fact that we are in the middle of every business, including the police station, fire station and the TRAUMA level ONE hospital only 6 minutes away! Oh AND the Prospect Animal Clinic for all you animal lover’s.

The well known Trefzger’ has a new location right off of Prospect, they have been in business for over one hundred years.

Peoria Heights is a village that is almost entirely on Peoria County and the population was under 7,000 in 2010.  Peoria Heights is a suburb of Peoria.  It is surrounded by the city of Peoria except for the Eastern boundaries on the Peoria Lake connected to the Illinois River.

Here is the Peoria / Peoria Heights Side looking at East Peoria over the Illinois River.

The total are of Peoria Heights is 6.969 square miles and this village is most widely known for its Grandview Drive . This is a great walking distance from the top of the bluff overlooking the Illinois River. With many elegant homes ranging in all sizes and a country club.  This Grandview Drive has a nice park , picnic area , baseball diamond and a volley ball net sand layout for the warm season’s.

In the year 1898 Prospect Heights was the first name , after discovered by two men. Then it was found, that Chicago had a town already named this, so that is when Peoria Heights was set in stone.  In 1906 one of the first Midwest amusement parks was up and running and there was a giant ferris wheel , figure 8 roller coaster, merry go round and a boat dock that had over 10,000 visitors daily during the summer months.  After WWII because of the Illinois River floods, the amusement park was no longer available.

Peoria Heights is also the birthplace of the first gasoline-powered car in America in 1893 by Charles Duryea and the Duryea automobile. The car is housed in the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C.

Teddy Roosevelt in 1910 made a visit in October , and called the Grandview Drive the “World’s most Beautiful Drive”

Grandview-Drive

The Grandview winds down and naturally curves  down the bluff where the Peoria Country Club is in sight. This country club of Peoria has been a part of the community since 1897. The club is still located at its original site on Grandview Drive. They offered the first 9- hole golf course in the Peoria area in 1915 and one the first swimming pools in 1930. The 18 – hole golf course was redesigned in 2007.

The neighborhood on Grandview Drive , and trolleys brought members directly to the club.  Times have changed and cars became the most main mode of transportation as the city of Peoria grew.

Today the neighborhood is one of Peoria’s most iconic neighborhoods and the Country Club of Peoria provides-focused and business friendly atmosphere for social , dining and athletic activities for members throughout the area.

The main water tower park has a actual elevator inside that is perfect to get to the top and view the Peoria, Tazwell and woodford counties. Independence Day is the best day to go on the tower!
